JOIN: Micro Magnetic Art-Wear

This unique transformable product line was conceived, designed, manufactured, and marketed entirely by myself. The finished product involves a co-creation art process. You can customize the backs of everything here with your name, a phrase, or a personal image of your liking (photos of loved ones, logos, etc.). These custom-made modular Alter/Altar Pieces are designed to be both interactive personalized art-wear jewelry and beautiful keepsake gift items. The pieces are sleek, modern and made of finely honed machined metal. The intention is to mix and match them. Join them together with magnetic connectors. Depending on your mood, style or occasion you can arrange these different modules to create beautiful one-of-a-kind wearable art. This body of work celebrates transformation, interactivity and playful hands-on design. They bring out the artist in everyone!

JOIN: Micro Magnetic Altar Pieces

All of these Alter/Altar Pieces are modular by design. A single housing unit is called an Art-Wear Module. It is made of jewelry quality machine-tooled metal that holds the art like a double-sided picture frame. The frame is made from surgical grade stainless steel alloy with a beautiful satin brushed finish. Each art-wear module has a customizable front and back face plate with polished inset optical lenses on both sides. These lenses protect, showcase, and magnify the art inside each module.

The unique thing about this art-wear modular piece is that its simple design adheres to the principle of form follows function. This principle informs all of my art.

I have been working on these dark subconscious images in tandem with the development of the actual stainless steel product line. Everything you see here is interconnected and embodies literally and symbolically what "JOIN" means.

The Cross Hands

"These are the hands of flesh and bone, pointed outward into the world as hands of service. Reaching, reaching out into the unknown of individual lives, hopes and dreams, sorrows and regrets. In these hands reaching out we see courage incarnate, searching for the inimitable purpose of being."

The Join Uniglyph

"The verb to join implies a deep need for belonging to something larger than our individual selves. Conventionally, we join groups for athletic, political, social, educational, artistic, etc., pursuits. We join hands in marriage or friendship or business for some defined end result. We join community to establish and/or re-inforce some part of our identity that is in need of recognition."

The Serpent's Belly

"This talisman contains both the micro-image of the armor of the skin of the dragon as well as the infinite spiral of the sea conch. This is fitting, as the dragon is ruler of two elements: fire and water. Though it issues fire from its nostrils and is covered with a thick, impenetrable hide, dragons actually live in deep undersea homes and are considered clairvoyants of the secrets of the human heart."

The Universal Cross

This geometric cross with arms of equal length is probably the most recognized symbol next to the circle. It is a pagan religious symbol most commonly used for protection. Here it is safeguarded within its own frame. The cross has been used on flags throughout the centuries and can be found in almost every culture. It radiates power from within and metaphorically represents balance, harmony, and convergence.

The Spiny Nautilus

"Its domain is emotion and feeling. It resides deep in the waters of life and its life force is complete, nurturing yin. But even here, we find the balance of the masculine and the feminine in order to make deep emotion manifest in form. The nautilus’ hard shell (the masculine structure and form) has held (receiving yin) many life forms within it."

The Classic Wishbone

"This is the white bone on sea green background that is used to conjure our best desires and dreams for ourselves. The word wish often means to hope for, but it also means to manifest, to conjure to bring forth. This is the active form of the word and places this symbol within our grasp of the possible. Because the bone also comes from the breast of a bird, it is useful to imagine our highest aspirations (air) issuing from our purified hearts (white bone), anchored in a sea of human compassion (sea green ocean) as we cast our magic words to bring our deepest desires into physical form. Dream wisely and well."
